Sea turtles are notoriously long-livers. Their average life span is between 30 to 50 years. However, they have been known to live up to 150 years old. No one really knows why turtles live as long as they do. It’s a mystery for now!

Do sea turtles breathe underwater?

No, they don’t they need oxygen like most other reptiles. What makes a sea turtle so phenomenal is that it can hold its breath underwater for 4-7 hours. They come to the surface to get oxygen when they need to.

Sea turtles mate at sea. A sea turtle reaches sexual maturity between the age of 20 to 30. After mating, they come ashore to lay their eggs.
